Wakecrest Drive

Overview

The property is located on a bluff with 180 degree panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.   The ocean is undeniably the focal point so we immediately adopted a design philosophy of “less is more” and deferred all ideas to the ocean view.

The client’s request for entertaining were met in two ways.   A deck cantilevered over the hillside was restored and redesigned with a counter height dining table and banquet seating to capture the spectacular coastal views to the south.   The second entertaining area was accomplished by a pergola, flagstone patio, and seat wall to extend the house and create an outdoor room.

A network of decomposed granite paths link the two entertaining spaces and extend across the ocean front perimeter allowing multiple access points to vistas and planting beds.   The views were given a final natural frame with mass plantings of grasses  (Nassella tenuissima, and Lavendula dentate).  The stucco and flagstone capped perimeter wall for the patio was softened with Pennisetum setaceum-fireworks.

A pocket garden with a custom water feature, located outside of the client’s office, was restored and replanted to create an oasis from the rigors of a thriving youth and canine rescue agency.
