Hempstead House

Venice, CA

Overview

We were privileged to work on the landscape restoration of the Hempstead House in Venice, CA., designed by Steven Ehrlich.  An important challenge of the restoration was to recreate the dialogue between nature and architecture. This required reigning in 20 years of teeming low light Ferns and Elephant Ear that thrive under a canopy of mature King Palms (Archontophoenix cunninghamiana).

Our goal was to allow the landscaping to continue to compliment the architecture and strengthen the original design concept.

In the backyard the contrasting colors of Speciman Agave attenuata and succulents are the bones for the modern landscape design.
